“Construction is a significant contributor to carbon emissions in the UK. We know that: 40% of UK emissions are from the built environment; 80% of the buildings in use in 2050 are already built; and 27 million homes and 2 million other buildings require retrofitting. At the Construction Industry Training Board, we are focused on supporting construction to have a competent and inclusive workforce now and in the future. This is why we are working with partners to embed sustainability and the principles of fairness, inclusion and respect into all our standards.
We have also developed a Net Zero Action Plan, which includes grant-enabling a range of green skills courses, improving training pathways through developing new competency frameworks, and mapping the training and assessment pathways different groups of learners should take to reach competence. To simplify how our customers access this training, CITB has been introducing a new service called Employer Networks and London’s Employer Networks launched in September 2024 with many CITB-registered companies already benefiting from the ease with which training and upskilling is enabled. To access the Employer Network, contact your London CITB Adviser here“.
